Why are you happy for others?

Why are you happy for others? 

Why are you happy for others when they are happy? 

When your friend got the best result in her exam, when your neighbour buys a new vehicle, when your cousin starts a new business why are you happy for them? 

There are so many answers to this question,  not that given by asking this question, but sometimes people say why are they happy for others. 

'I'm so happy for her, coz I'm not jealous of her, I know everything is impermanent, so I'm very happy for her' 

'I'm happy for him, yes he got good marks, but I have higher marks than him' 

'Ah yes, she got a good job, I'm soo happy for her, but you know, she will have to work for long hours'

Is this why you are happy for others??

If so, you are not genuinely happy, you just trying to hide your envy and pretend to be happy just because you want to be seen as a good person, not that you are wholeheartedly happy. 

So why should we be happy for others? That's because we are happy for them. When something good happens to us, why are we happy? This is why we should be happy for others, not just for the sake of proving that we are good people.
